As a result of the excavations at Civita Giulia in the Pampei region,new finds added: A parade chariot decorated with silver reliefs, a stable with a sorrel in a blanket, two victims of the eruption whose casts were made, a room where three slaves lived, possibly a small family.
Archaeologists also found utensils, pottery and fire bowls found upside down along the walls of an environment that was part of the servants’ quarters in the sprawling housing estate. It is assumed that the vases were in place during the final phase of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The recent archaeological finds at the site are part of an excavation campaign in which for some time the Prosecutor’s Office of Torre Annunziata, along with the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, carried out a protocol signed by the two authorities, which, by combining archaeological research with research activities represents a real “pilot” agreement in the field of between state institutions for the protection and enhancement of the national archaeological heritage and has proven itself to be a formidable tool to counter the activities of clandestine excavations and return to the public finds and evidence of exceptional historical and cultural value,” emphasizes Prosecutor Fragliasso.
